It can be subtle like a low hum of worry in the background or a sadness that is lasting longer than usual. We’re not always sure why we feel discontent or restless. At other times, it can feel more intense, like a panic or a depression that threatens to paralyze you. Something may have happened in your life that set this off or maybe nothing at all happened and your mood has taken an unexpected turn.
Trying to muscle through it isn’t working.
Functioning feels heavier than it used to. From the outside, things probably look fine. You’re smart, competent, and functional. But inside, it’s a different story and a sense that something is off. You might catch yourself wondering, “Why can’t I just handle this?” Or, “Is this normal?”
Even if you’ve convinced yourself you should be able to figure this out on your own, why go it alone when you don’t have to?
Life isn’t satisfying when we feel like we’re sleepwalking through it. Days, months, even years go by and we wake up only to find ourselves stuck in the same place over and over. It’s hard to imagine the future as more of the same. Something needs to change and you know that’s going to take some intentional action.
It’s time to get unstuck.
It isn’t a given that nothing can be done about where you are in your life. So much can be done. Even if some things can’t be changed, there’s always room for transformation somewhere in your life. With the right support, you can start with imagining what feels doable right now and build your way towards more, always aiming for a rich, full and meaningful life even amidst life’s challenges.
The door is open whenever you’re ready. Schedule a session here.
I’ve spent the past 20+ years working one-on-one with people in therapy to help them improve their lives, enhance their wellbeing and move towards what matters most to them.
I love the countercultural and analog nature of therapy. Talking with one person in a room with no interruptions for an hour and really focusing on what is being said is my idea of a good time.
My approach is grounded in mindfulness-based therapies—especially Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and EMDR. I have deep respect for my clients’ experience and inner wisdom and take a collaborative approach so we can work on what feels most important to you. That might mean reflecting together on old patterns, learning new ways to cope with anxiety, or simply creating space to ask:
Is this your first time coming to therapy?
Check out this post I wrote about the why of therapy:
If you’re ready to make an appointment you can go ahead and schedule here.
I’ll review your appointment request and if it looks like I can help, I’ll accept the appointment and look forward to meeting you.
Not sure yet or have questions? Feel free to email me or book a free 15 minute call and we’ll have a conversation about your needs and see if we might be a good fit.
We’ll meet for your first session either online or in-person in West Des Moines and begin getting to know each other.
We’ll talk about what’s been going on and what you’re hoping for.
The first appointment will give us the time and space to really discuss what your needs are and get a sense of whether we’d work well together.
Therapy with me is collaborative and flexible.
Go at your own pace, get unstuck and build a life you love.
