Counseling for Anxiety

Do you feel plagued by anxiety that won’t quit no matter what you try?

You’re a smart, creative and thoughtful person. You overthink and overanalyze so you’re wondering why you haven’t been able to figure this anxiety out on your own. Your head spins with so many thoughts in a day you can’t believe you haven’t thought your way out of this.

You read self-help books, listen to podcasts and try to take deep breaths. You have all the insight in the world. But lately the anxiety has come to a head and you’re looking for a solution. It’s gone on for too long and it’s affecting your life too much.

You have trouble sleeping. And one thing’s for sure–you can feel this anxiety in your body. You’re tense, sometimes your stomach hurts or your heart races. You have trouble living in the present moment because you’re always thinking about other things or worrying about the future.

Some days you wonder where you get all this worry and fear. You’ve likely had these feelings for a while. You wonder if it’s connected to your past somehow. At times, you have a lurking feeling that it’s your fault, that you’re to blame because you haven’t mastered this, you haven’t figured out how to control it. You feel like there’s something wrong with you.

I can help you change your relationship to anxiety so that it has less power over your life.

  • You can learn skills to help you know what to do when you’re in anxiety-provoking situations or when your anxiety is high for seemingly no reason.
  • You can learn to break down your anxiety, to take it apart and get to know all its little tricks and turns so you’re more confident about how to handle your anxiety.
  • You can stop blaming yourself for how you feel or what you think.
  • You can approach yourself with kindness and compassion rather than beating yourself up.
  • When you feel anxious, you’ll have a toolbox for knowing how to get through it even when it’s really uncomfortable.

Mindfulness Techniques and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy

Using a blend of mindfulness-based techniques and a framework built on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (learn more about ACT if you’re curious), I help people with anxiety gain skills for dealing with it. Rather than trying to make anxiety magically disappear or treating anxiety as something you can think your way out of (you know, replace your negative thoughts with positive ones, right? Well, not so much but we’ll get to that…) we’ll investigate the role of anxiety in your life and make a plan to help you be more present.

Develop Skills to Approach Anxiety

You can develop the skills to approach anxiety as a normal part of life and learn how to give it less power. You don’t want it running the show. You can learn to focus less on the anxiety and more on living the kind of life you want and being who you want to be. It’s time to get out of your head and start living your life.

Learn to Connect with Life and People

Ultimately, this is about getting more connected to your life and the people in your life. It’s about living a life full of purpose, meaning, and fulfillment even when you feel anxious.

Sometimes the way out is through.

You’ll learn how to work through your anxiety rather than constantly struggling against it. It really is possible.

You could keep feeling stuck and wondering if you could have done something to make this better. You could keep trying to figure this out for yourself but a year from now you might be asking yourself the same circle of questions, still not finding answers and getting nowhere. Instead, let’s work through this together.
